The morning sun cuts across the canyon walls, and swallows dart overhead as you paddle the swirling rapids of the Arkansas River. The canyon is still, with only the sounds of the early morning insects, and the splashes of the water as you dip you paddle in, heading ever deeper into Browns Canyon National Monument. You aim the bow downstream, pushing on to your office, the jewel of the Ark - Zoom Flume - a straight shot rapid famous for its big waves. This is where you post up for the day, camera in hand, ready to capture the daily action and excitement of commercial and private boat trips down the Arkansas River.
We are Whitewater Photography.com. Our office is based out of a photo studio/art gallery on main street in Buena Vista - Arkansas Valley Digital Imaging. We service a 100 mile stretch of the Arkansas River, from Pine Creek to The Royal Gorge, photographing every commercial rafting trip 7 days a week the entirety of summer.
Though the majority of our locations (such as The Numbers, and Pine Creek) are accessed on foot, the most heavily commercially rafted section (Browns Canyon National Monument) is only accessible by boat. We are seeking confident and competent kayakers to shoot in Browns Canyon. You will be expected to boat solo in high water conditions, with a full setup of cameras, lenses and a laptop strapped in your boat, while being the first in and last out of the canyon. The stretch of water running through the canyon may only be class 3 (pushing class 4 in high water), but we expect you to be an experienced and skilled class 5 boater due to the solo nature of the job.
Throughout the summer you will experience all nature of weather. One minute blistering heat, the next blasting rain. The boats will keep coming, and shutter will keep clicking. You should be tough, and excited by the opportunity to work and play in the outdoors.
The Arkansas River Valley offers world-class rafting and kayaking as well as an abundance of hiking, biking, rock climbing and fishing, a literal stones through from town. This is the perfect complimentary job for someone who wants to be immersed in an outdoor lifestyle. Many of our employees camp out all summer. If you do not want to camp, you should track down housing as early as possible.
Arkansas Valley Digital Imaging (AVDI) has been providing photos to outfitters since 2002. We work out of our full-service photography studio and art gallery on Main Street. We are fortunate enough to love what we do for a living and we get to do it in our ideal location. We have a solid returning staff with diverse backgrounds and personalities. We provide an enjoyable and casual work environment with consistent work and consistent paychecks. Each year we strive to bring in new staff that we will enjoy being around and who we feel will benefit from being around us.
