Conduct walking Selfie tours through historic downtown Ketchikan. Present the fascinating culture and lore of a by-gone era and uniquely Alaskan way of life, leading groups of up to 10 guests at a time. Requires public speaking ability and an enthusiastic/theatrical presentation style. Must take pride in presenting history with accuracy and authenticity. Some driving may be required. This is a shore-based position.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Meet all tour buses and Allen Marine tour vessels, escort passengers through downtown Ketchikan.
  • Develop tour narrative as directed by supervisor with emphasis on cultural details of life during this former period and with respect for historic accuracy.
  • Facilitate group flow and maintain tour timing as move through different streets.
  • Must always provide for the safety and comfort of guests.
  • Must wear comfortable attire provided by the company and project professional and confident image.
  • Must be willing to perform other duties as specified by supervisor.
  • Job requires a strong multi-tasker with highly developed communication & organizational skills.
  • Must be able to maintain a positive attitude in a high stress & fast paced work environment.
  • Must have the ability to work independently & in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must be able to be present at the assigned work area for the duration of your shift.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Public speaking experience required, dramatic experience helpful.
  • Biology, natural resource and/or history background preferred. Must be able to learn and retain pertinent background material provided for presentation to guests.
  • Must have strong communication skills and ability to project voice in cavernous buildings.
  • Must be able to lift and move objects of up to 50 lbs. as required.
  • Must be drug free (pre-employment and random drug testing is Coast Guard required).
  • Must be punctual and flexible to work varied shift hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Must have ability to work independently while performing in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.
  • Must be clean, well groomed, courteous, honest, and most important, reliable.
  • Provide clerical support to managers as needed.
  • Periodically running various errands such as going to the post office, and refilling gas tanks.

 

Pay

Dependent on experience and skill level. Limited benefits. This is a season full time position. Preference will be given to candidates who are available to work the entire season without interruption. An end of season bonus will be paid to employees who complete their contract in good standing.
