Summary: The Marine Welder will be responsible for cutting, assembling, and fitting pieces of metal together or repairing damage in metal components using heavy equipment that emits high heat, and melting into shape. This position will need to have a working knowledge of reading and comprehending blueprints, schematics and/or material specifications to ensure safe operations. Work will be performed at Sitka Shipyard and may include occasional travel.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Boat building and fabrication of other structures
  • Boat building and fabrication of other structures
  • Mig welding, tacking, tig welding and brazing
  • All position welding required (vertical, horizontal and overhead)
  • Cutting with plasma and acetylene torches
  • Layout, print reading, cutting, grinding and buffing aluminum extrusions and plate
  • Assist fitters
  • Clean up work area, general shop clean up
  • Weld repairs to boats and yard equipment
  • Welding handrail brackets and similar structures
  • Other tasks may be required associated with the regular operation of the company, assigned by foreman
  • Complying with relevant codes and regulatory standards.
  • Clean up work area, general shop clean up
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of welding and pipefitter experience
  • Must possess a valid driver license with an acceptable driving record
  • Marine Industry knowledge a plus

Work Environment:

Ability to work flexible schedule to include weekends and holidays. Hours are flex week.  Expect occasional over-time. Work in a warehouse. Sometimes dusty, cold environment. Occasionally required to work outside

Environmental conditions generally include cool inside temperature, low to high level inside lighting, moderate to loud noise levels, all weather conditions, frequent use of required personal protective equipment. Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Ability to walk on uneven deck surfaces crossing from vessel to vessel.  Physically able to climb a 7-foot vertical ladder and fit through a 28-inch escape hatch.
