Family Owned and Operated Since 1962
We are a premier California outfitter with sixty years of experience. We are seeking folks interested in joining a professional and fun-loving community of people who work hard, play hard, and do it All-Outdoors. While AO staff hail from different disciplines and decades, and enjoy a diverse range of passions, we all share the love of one thing: getting on the river with great people.
Our operation is based in the quaint, peaceful town of Lotus, CA right on the banks of the beautiful So. Fork of the American River.
About All-Outdoors California Whitewater Rafting
In 1962, George Armstrong, the founder of All-Outdoors, started sharing his love of the rivers with his students, friends and family. Sixty years later, the Armstrong family continues that tradition by welcoming thousands of people every year on river rafting trips throughout California.
The Employee Experience
Family is the foundation of All-Outdoors, just as it was in the beginning. While AO has grown and evolved over the course of sixty years, that foundation has remained firm. Whether it's out on the river running commercial trips or climbing, biking, hiking, kayaking and relaxing on our off-time, we really are a tight-knit operation that values each individual who is a part of it. In this job you will be challenged, grow in the ways you make decisions, improve upon your skills in problem-solving, and be an ambassador of the outdoors to hundreds of guests throughout the season. Day in and day out, the focus of each individual of the AO staff is to introduce guests to the beautiful rivers that we all love and to foster a supportive, encouraging community that is the AO family.
An employee at All-Outdoors is professional, hardworking, and personable. Our employees are passionate about the outdoors, and are stewards of the environment as they guide guests through the beautiful river canyons of California. Those who work at All-Outdoors work hard but also play hard. Our tribe is made up of folks from all walks of life, disciplines, and decades yet we all share a love for being on the river with great people. In short, we do it All-Outdoors.
Room and Board
Employee housing/camping is available on most of our operations for $100/month. All housing is outdoor, camp style living with access to full bathrooms, showers, and kitchens. We cannot accommodate dogs or other pets.
Whether your workday at All-Outdoors consists of time in the office, operating vehicles, guiding rafts, or some combination of all of the above, you are surrounded by a team of like-minded individuals who share a passion for the outdoors. There are a multitude of opportunities to see and train on rivers all over California including some of the most difficult whitewater in North America. Friends and family discounts on trips are also available and can be discussed upon request.
Getting Here and Getting Around
Personal vehicles are recommended, however many of the staff choose to carpool, bike, or ride in company vehicles when possible. Depending on the location of the operation you’re a part of, towns are typically between 10-25 minutes away via car.
Our various river operations are located near the forks of the American River, Lake Tahoe, and mere miles away from Yosemite National Park which allows many of our guides to recreate with one another in the great outdoors on their days off. These times compliment the action-packed workdays. Here, bonds among staff are strengthened, and memories are made that last a lifetime. It is truly unique that the people we work with are also the ones we want to spend our time off with.
How to Apply
For each qualified applicant, there is a phone interview with the hiring team at All-Outdoors. This is a time where applicants establish communication with AO, meet some of the staff, and ask any questions they might have. By the end of this initial conversation, applicants will be able to confirm they are still interested in a job at All-Outdoors and have a desire to continue to the next step of the process. Following this call, references will be reviewed. The process concludes with a final interview either in person or over video call in which a more refined job offer will be presented.
