  • Shuttle Driver

    Safari and Basecamp
    Kenai Riverside Lodge (KRL)

    Our drivers are often the first impression a guest has of our company so we prefer applicants who are genuinely welcoming and have an innate desire to share natural history and interpretive information while safely navigating the roadways and providing exceptional guest service.

    This position is a great way to build skills and make the jump to guiding. When you aren’t picking up rafting or fishing shuttles or driving guests to and from the airport you will assist with maintenance, landscaping and other camp projects so strong preference is given to applicants with skills they can apply when they are out from behind the wheel.

    Likewise, experience driving with trailers, buses or a Class “C” CDL is a plus. Pay is DOE.

    ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    2. Class "C" Commercial Driver's License with Passenger Endorsement or equivalent.

  • Hospitality Staffer

    Hospitality staff make life at camp welcoming and enjoyable for guests and staff. Whether they are helping in the kitchen, doing laundry, tending bar, washing dishes or housekeeping, we expect all staff to be organized, personable, punctual, and genuinely willing to help.

    ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Office Assistant- Cooper Landing

    Office
    Kenai Riverside Lodge (KRL)

    ​Carry out various office functions including data entry, reservation processing, phone calls, trip sales, gift shop sales, payment processing, and guest reception. Work in fast-paced environment with a great deal of guest contact and service.

    Essential Requirements for Office Positions:

    • Possess computer skills in word processing, data entry, reservation systems, spreadsheets, Excel, Google Docs, and Google Calendar. Microsoft Office literacy preferred.

    • Professional and cheerful phone and guest reception.

    • Comfortable with meeting and greeting walk-in guests.

    • Organized and conscientious at handling inventory and retail sales.

    • Ability to live and work in a communal, camp-like atmosphere.

  • Office Assistant- Seward

    Weather Permitting

    The Office Coordinator will assist the Kenai Fjords Glacier Lodge in sales, guest check-ins, transportation and assistance for the Weather Permitting water taxi business. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to taking phone reservations  for Water Taxi and 72 hour special KFGL bookings as well as answering basic questions about Water Taxi and KFGL.

    KFGL SUPPORT:

    • Meet and greet guests; they will check in at office. Label luggage with tags with cabin number; shuttle them and luggage to boat as needed.
    • Greet boat on return; receive backhaul and sort/transport it to appropriate facility (garbage to dumpster, recycling, etc.)
    • Check in food and supplies, sometimes re-pack for boats
    • Help load boats.
    • Other chores as needed: filling propane tanks
    • Help make arrangements for guests in case of weather delays, including possible guiding of Seward adventure.
    • Serve as Deck Hand from time to time
    • Help clean boats from time to time (this is generally contracted) 

    Job Requirements/Qualifications:

    • Familiarity with AWA programs or similar experience in ecotourism, and Alaska experience preferred.

    • Excellent organizational skills, detail orientated, self-motivation, and self-management

    • Communication skills with both guests and employees, excellent at customer service

    • Housing and food not provided, so ideally already a Seward resident

    • Competent with computers (familiarity with WordPerfect, Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Google Calendar, e-mail, and Excel programs).

    • Have the ability to lift heavy loads (up to 50 pounds).
  • Boat Captain

    Kenai Backcountry Lodge
    Skilak Lake (KBL)

    JOB OBJECTIVE: Ensure the safe operation of our 38 foot custom aluminum landing craft on Skilak lake, including overseeing the maintenance and operation of the vessel. This position also provides support to the KBL Lodge management team in the maintenance of the lodge property.

    A USCG Masters license is required for this position. Minimum Inland 25 ton rating.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The Captain position involves:

    A. Work requiring knowledge gained in advanced training and specialized experiences in operating a boat in the capacity as Captain, natural history interpretation, principles of group leadership and interpersonal communications, as well as safety skills and precautions.  

    B. Performing work that is original, dynamic, and creative in character.  Each and every situation during your work may require unique approaches and varying techniques in order to result in a consistent overall high quality experience for trip participants. WP recognizes that high quality results depend upon the invention, imagination, and talent you possess for this profession.

    C. Imparting instruction in safety skills and informed narration on natural history as necessary for trip participants. You are recognized by WP as a professional boat operator. We highly respect the professional nature of this position.  

    D. Consistent exercise of discretion and judgment in the performance of the work with regard to the Captain position. Within a wide range of standards and guidelines, you will be granted independence in carrying out your work within generally acceptable standards of this profession.

    F. While serving as the boat’s captain, work often requires supervisory capacity over  the Deckhand/Naturalist and all trip participants for the duration of the trip.

    G. Support safe work environment by modeling good practices, using appropriate personal protective equipment and helping serve as steward of PPE for other staff.

    H. Participation in program risk management and making recommendations to the KBL Managers to ensure all necessary safety programs, policies and precautions are in place and implemented to lessen risks to employees and guests

  • Hiking Kayaking Adventure Trip Leader

    Outdoor Leadership
    Kenai Fjords Glacier Lodge (KFGL), Kenai Riverside Lodge (KRL), and Skilak Lake (KBL)

    Leads activities such as hiking, canoeing, and sea kayaking for five to ten day. Also supports AWA at various lodges during stay.  We search for trip leaders who genuinely enjoy working with people. More than anything else, this is the critical factor in determining if potential applicants will make GREAT trip leaders.

    Trip leaders have to be more than naturalists; they have to provide first-rate, high-quality guest service, act as positive problem solvers, be team players -- ready to help set a table or carry luggage as enthusiastically as identifying a wildflower while hiking -- and thrive off the unexpected events that often occur while traveling throughout Alaska's wild lands. Pay is DOE.

    • Responsible for developing and presenting evening programs for guests.

    • Must have interpretation background and previous Alaska experience.  

    • Must have extensive experience in sea kayaking.

    • Wilderness First Responder or higher is required.

    • 120 days (or more) of documented experience with motorized boats (Sea Service)

    • Experience in sea kayaking and rafting class III white water (or higher) is a plus.

    • Pre-employment physical and drug screen required for USCG "Six-Pack" and Kenai River Guide licenses.

  • Trip Packer

    Prepares and packs travel meals food for all Alaska Wildland Adventure trips, including lunches for all AWA guests. The trip packer is also responsible for providing the employee kitchen with sandwich meats, cheeses, spreads, and other essential lunch fixings. Must be organized and detail oriented.

  • Dinner Cook

    This position will work alongside the Lead Dinner Chef in preparing and presenting 2 family-style, 4 course meals each night. They will also support the chef in preparing staff dinner and weekly salmon bake lunches for special groups. Must have experience in food preparation and sanitation procedures. Great teamwork ethic required.

    Promotes a positive learning environment in the kitchen. This position takes leadership of the dinner shift. Responsibilities include: staff supervision; quality control; oversight of meal preparation; and food inventory control. The Lead Dinner Chef will be responsible for 2 guest dinners (4 courses in each), staff dinner, and weekly special group salmon bakes. Previous cooking experience required.

  • Office Coordinator

    This position involves taking bookings for our water taxis, facilitating guest departure and arrivals from Seward Harbor, minor accounting, and receiving our remote lodge food deliveries and facilitating shipment.  Additional responsibilities include recycling and dump runs, concise email communication.  

    Candidates should possess high organizational skills, ability to multi task, ability to lift 50lbs, strong customer service skills, and a positive can do attitude.

  • Natural History Raft Guide

    Kenai Riverside Lodge (KRL)

    Our raft guides share accurate and engaging natural and cultural history during scenic floats on the Kenai River. We prefer applicants who are genuinely welcoming and have an innate desire to share natural history and interpretive information while safely navigating the river and providing exceptional guest service.

    This position is a great way to build your interpretive knowledge of Alaska, boreal forests, and glacial river systems. When you aren’t rowing guests down the river, you will help pick up rafting or fishing shuttles and assist with maintenance, landscaping and other camp projects so strong preference is given to applicants with skills they can apply when they are out from behind the oars.

    ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    1. Exceptional guest service and ability to problem solve.

    2. Flexibility and accuracy in dealing with complicated logistics and scheduling.

    3. Cheerful and enthusiastic attitude, punctuality, dependability.

    4. Ability to work both independently and within a team structure.

    5. Innate curiosity and willingness to learn and share the natural and cultural history of the area. 

    6. Neat and clean appearance.

    7. Ability to live and work in a communal, camp-like atmosphere.

    8. Successful completion of AWA raft training.

    9. Ability to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen and participate in a random drug screening program as required by Alaska State Parks and the United States Coast Guard.

    10. Independently loading heavy and awkward items like luggage, coolers or boxes weighing 50 lbs. or more and safely participating in group lifts of rafts and motors that can weigh more than 400 lbs. are regular and essential duties of this position.

    PREFERENCE GIVEN TO APPLICANTS WHO POSSESS:

    • Prior whitewater rafting experience.
    • Demonstrable interpretive experience, especially in Alaska.
    • Experience driving large vehicles, 15-passenger vans or CDL passenger vehicles. Experience trailering boats or heavy loads.
    • A Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (restricted to the waters of the Kenai River) or greater Merchant Mariner Credential
    • Ability to obtain an OUPV MMC prior to the season start.
    • A Wilderness First Responder or greater certification.

    Responsibilities:
    • Assisting Business Manager with processing payments, tracking/reports, and other seasonal projects
    • Brochure fulfillment processes and managing office mail/supplies
    • Working routinely with company data tracking systems, including Trip Lynx (custom reservations system), Google Docs, Excel, Word, and other operating systems
    • Support with administrative functions relating to guest confirmation materials, processing guest information and filing
    • Support of Sales Manager with additional projects on a case-by-case basis
    • Assisting AWA President and other key managers with special projects on a case-by-case basis as designated by the Sales Manager.
    • Executing the Girdwood Office trash & recycling programs

  • Fish Guide- Kenai River

    Kenai Riverside Lodge (KRL)

    Our guides operate drift boats and/or powerboats while guiding up to 4 clients at a time, and fish primarily for trout and salmon. Applicants must be well-rounded anglers and proficient in a variety of fishing techniques and styles, particularly those related to catching trout and salmon. Candidates with Alaska or Pacific Northwest fishing experience, previous guiding experiences and boat handling skills are preferred. Compensation package includes salary based on experience, guide licensing fees, industry incentives (i.e., discounted fishing gear) and subsidized room and board.

    Essential Requirements for Fish Guide Positions:

    • Have the ability to work within and maintain a positive attitude during long days of work.
    • Possess or have the ability and experience to obtain a Restricted Operator of Uninspected Vessels (ROUPV) or greater Merchant Mariner Credential. (For details regarding license requirements please contact our hiring office).

  • Vehicle Mechanic

    Basecamp
    Kenai Riverside Lodge (KRL)

    Our Mechanics keep our fleet safe, comfortable, and in good repair. Our vehicle mechanic will perform scheduled and unscheduled basic repairs and preventative maintenance on a small fleet of 15 passenger vans, airporter style mini-coaches, trailers, and outboard motors. You would help supervise drivers and other staff in performing daily maintenance functions, collaborate with managers to schedule upcoming services and maintain vehicle files and recordkeeping.

     

    ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Diverse skillset and ability to problem solve.
    • Flexibility and accuracy in dealing with complicated logistics and scheduling.
    • Cheerful and enthusiastic attitude, punctuality, dependability.

  • Boathouse Manager

    Kenai Riverside Lodge (KRL)

    The position involves:

    A leadership role in daily planning and staff morning meetings. – Collaboratively creating and administering the day to day “master plan” with support from the KRL management team.

    Boathouse Staff Scheduling - Managing/balancing scheduling to maximize business success, keeping staff happy, energized, and motivated.  Includes utilizing GSuite applications to manage “day at a glance” and 14-day outlook with other department managers.  

    Staff Supervision - Direct supervision of raft guides including mid-season and end of season evaluations.

    Training - Leadership role in river guide training course with a focus on safety protocols and procedures, environmental standards and education regarding best practices. Following up throughout the season to improve performance and practices of guides.

    Payroll – Tracking raft guide days/hours worked, and submitting payroll to the Cooper Landing Operations Manager.

    Raft and vehicle management, maintenance and scheduling with support from the Cooper landing Operations Manager.

    Safely operating motor vehicles while towing trailers.

    Guest service, including: luggage handling, general orientation of guests, misc. shuttles, etc.

    Arrival on-site and start date to align with opening activities including participating in planning and preparation for the opening of facilities, the arrival of staff, early-season projects, and Boathouse logistics.

    End date to align with closing activities including raft maintenance, breakdown, and storage; organization and inventory of equipment; developing an off-season purchase plan; closedown of facilities. 

     

     

  • Reservation Specialist

    Alaska Wildland Adventures, the leader in small group adventure tours in Alaska, is seeking a Reservations Specialist to work in our Girdwood, AK, office.  

    This position will handle a variety of office functions, such as: answering phones, corresponding with travelers via email, office filing and data entry, taking  reservations, assisting with guest documentation and more.  

    Applicants should have strong verbal and written communication skills and be  able to multi-task in environments ranging from high-paced to leisurely at times.  Attention to detail is extremely important. Experience in Microsoft Office  applications and Google documents is key.  

    This position is for year-round full-time work (40 hours a week), Monday – Friday,  8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Starting pay scale is $18 - $20 an hour, based on experience.  Medical insurance and paid vacation time will be offered upon satisfactory  completion of a 30-day trial period.
