JOB STATEMENT/PURPOSE

The Civics in Action (CIA) Coordinator is a full-time in-person position at the Alaska Native Heritage Center (ANHC) and reports directly to the CIA Manager overseeing the Alaska Civics in Action Project. The Coordinator should implement the ANHC Ten Universal Values in their work and support the ANHC mission of “ANHC preserves and strengthens the traditions, languages, and arts of Alaska’s Native Peoples through statewide collaboration, celebration, and education.” The Coordinator supports day‑to‑day implementation of tasks, programming activities, and logistics associated with the Project’s US Patriotic, Alaska Native Tribal Governance, and Alaska Native Claims & Settlement Act education programming. Duties include project support, partner coordination, communication, data collection, presentations, and assistance with execution of the project’s strategic plan. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the Manager in implementing project goals, activities, and deliverables. 

  • Support creation and maintenance of community partnerships and assist in maintaining program protocols. 

  • Coordinate logistical aspects of project activities, meetings, and events with internal staff, external contractors, and community partners. 

  • Collect and organize project data needed for reporting and evaluation. 

  • Assist with processing contractor deliverables and support the contractor search process as assigned. 

  • Complete and submit reports as required.  

  • Ensure confidentiality and security of all electronic and paper files by following strict security protocols and limiting access to project employees.  

  • Prepare drafts of reports, spreadsheets, and documentation for Manager review. 

  • Provides support and coordination for educational programs, including but not limited to written and verbal communication with clients and partnering ANHC departments, coordination with internal and external contracted vendors including culture bearers, artists, and Native Youth Games athletes. 

  • Support internal ANHC programming for various departments as needed. 

  • Stay on task, take initiative, be proactive, be creative, and problem solve.  

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

Education & Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Sciences, Communications, History, Politics, or related field preferred. Or equivalent work experience.   

  • One to three year’s experience with program coordination, education, or administrative support.  

  • Experience with grant-funded projects preferred.  

Knowledge: 

  • Have knowledge of Alaska Native cultures, history, Tribal governance and politics, the Alaska Native Claims & Settlement Act, and Alaska State history, or be willing to research the topics to learn and receive training.   

  • Have understanding of ANHC’s mission, direction, and history or be willing to research the topics to learn and receive training.  

  • Familiarity with local available service agencies.  

  • Demonstrated understanding of FERPA and HIPAA regulations and requirements or be willing to research the topics to learn and receive training.  

  • Contributes to department growth and goals to improve services and quality of the educational programs. 

Skills: 

  • Have strong writing, verbal and public speaking skills.   

  • Have proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Teams and other computer skills. 

  • Ability to use standard office equipment. 

  • Experience with all social media platforms. 

  • Willingness to learn the operation of all audio and visual equipment.   

Abilities: 

  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals with varying strengths and abilities.  

  • Be able to prepare reports in Word and Excel.  

  • Strong organizational skills. 

  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines. 

  • Flexibility to work occasionally outside of business hours.  

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Additional duties as assigned based on the needs of the business. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Weather:  

  • Indoors: Primarily in an environmentally controlled office. 

  • Outdoors: Determined by Alaska’s weather, when visiting programs and partners, in accordance with Municipalities rules and regulations, and ANHC’s COVID 19 mandates. 

Noise level:  

  • Quiet to moderate in a shared cubical environment. 

Physical requirements:  

  • Employee is required to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.  

  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
