JOB STATEMENT/PURPOSE: The Communications & Development Coordinator will play a vital role in supporting the Alaska Native Heritage Center’s communication efforts and fundraising initiatives. This position works with the Vice President of Strategic Advancement & Communications to ensure fundraising, outreach, and communications goals are initiated and met. Responsibilities include coordinating and implementing various communications strategies, assisting in the management of donor relations and administrative tasks, and assisting with fundraising campaigns.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Develop and execute communication plans to promote ANHC’s mission, programs, and events.

· Create engaging content for various platforms, including social media, website, newsletters, and press releases.

· Manage and enhance ANHC’s online presence through social media channels and website updates.

· Collaborate with colleagues to ensure consistent messaging and branding across all communication channels.

· Monitor and analyze communication efforts, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.

· Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in communications and development.

· Assist with marketing, communications and development strategies and advertising programs across a variety of media sources, engage and maintain relationships with press and media, and assist in administrative tasks including, but not limited to, press release writing and distribution, speech writing, board report development, content development, and other administrative tasks as assigned.

· Help to coordinate and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, partners, investors, and ensure timely and personalized communication.

· Assist in the planning and execution of fundraising campaigns and events.

· Conduct research on potential investors and assist with grant writing and reporting as directed.

· Provide support to the President & CEO and key leadership staff including but not limited to media assistance and on-site support for events

· Work closely with the Cultural Tourism team to manage relationships with guests, ensure positive guest experiences, and maintain a positive image for ANHC among the public.

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS, EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

· Ability to work independently to ensure effective direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control, and completion of department goals and initiatives, as well as demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative cross-department team environment.

· Proven experience in communications, marketing, or fundraising roles.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Ability to maintain a positive working environment and effectively communicate with staff and supervisor regarding status and progress of projects.

· Strong organizational and project management abilities.

· Proficiency in social media platforms, content management systems, and design software. Eagerness to learn and manage various content and donor tracking systems.

· Knowledge of fundraising principals or strategies.

· Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.

· A Bachelor's degree or higher in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.

· Knowledge of project management techniques and tools.

· Interacting with others in a positive manner and maintaining good working relationships among diverse partners and customers.

· Experienced as intermediate to advanced proficiency in effectively using the following software, MS SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook. Also experience in using MS Projects or similar project management/tracking software.

· Knowledge of Alaskan Native culture, customs and languages preferred.

· Have basic understanding of ANHC’s mission, direction, and history or be willing to receive training.

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Additional duties as assigned based on needs of the business.

Physical requirements:

· Employee is required to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.

· Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
