JOB STATEMENT/PURPOSE:

The Retail Clerk will support the daily operations of the gift shop and admissions desk, checking out guests at the register, restocking inventory, engaging shoppers who visit the gift shop, and assist and support the Gift Shop manager in ensuring the smooth running of the Shop.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet customers in the Gift Shop.
  • Develop a working knowledge of Alaska Native Culture and art
  • Work POS system to process transactions.
  • Execute clerical functions and paperwork in retail store, including daily sales reports and balancing of the cash register daily.
  • Execute Point of Sale (Square) data functions, at the register and in the application: including entries, handling incoming Order Confirmations and their complete data / Purchase Order creation, and receiving in the database, inventory control.
  • Provides support at the admissions desk and executing Point of Sale for general customers and tour operators.
  • Assist in handling inventory order deliveries, and their organized floor and backstock placement
  • Maintain, manage, and organize merchandise on the shelves and racks in the store
  • Assist and support the Gift Shop manager in ensuring the smooth running of the store
  • Ensure excellent retail experiences to customers
  • Maintaining the store, including cleaning, arranging, and when necessary, restocking the shelves.
  • Reports to the manager when difficulties arise.
  • Ability to handle Shop Social Media Posts and duties.
  • Answers the main phone line providing positive customer service.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Able to perform basic math, writing and reading tasks without supervision
  • Able to comfortably stand for extended period of time
  • Considerable ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Stock product as necessary, make sure all displays are kept stocked, neat and clean within the guidelines of the ANHC guidelines.
  • Keeping sales floor clean, this includes sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, mopping, and trash removal to ensure a presentable and safe work area. 
  • Ability to delegate daily tasks and duties for incoming interns assigned to work with the Shop.
  • Give accurate helpful information to ANHC visitors.
  • Assist with public communications for the Giftshop, i.e., pictures and gathering data for social media posts
  • Other tasks and duties based on the needs of the business.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • While performing duties of this job, would occasionally be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools or controls.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in Alaska weather extremes.
  • Job will generally be performed in a retail environment.
