    Summer Camp

    Registered Nurse

    AbilityFirst is looking for a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse to join our vibrant team for an exciting summer camp experience! This unique position offers the opportunity to work closely with individuals with special needs in a supportive and dynamic environment. 

    • Attend Supervisor/Program Staff Training prior to staff orientation 
    • During orientation, responsible for training staff in the physical care needs of campers including: pressure sores, accidents, seizures, bowel & bladder care, personal hygiene, allergies, special diets, medications & medication procedures. 
    • Follows procedures outlined in the Camp Nursing Manual and Physician’s Standing Orders. 
    • Supervises and oversees the work of Licensed Vocational Nursing staff. 
    • Works closely with the other nursing staff on all pertinent medical issues. 
    • Directly responsible to the Camp Director but works closely with the Unit Directors in the management of camper care. Consults daily with the Camp Director and other supervisors regarding camper concerns. 
    • Responsible for all medical care administered to assigned campers and staff and the daily documentation of such care. May include: diabetic management, bowel and bladder care, g-tube care, trach care, breathing treatments. 
    • Charts all given care. Nursing notes are to be kept current and thorough and are to be added to the camper files at the end of each session. 
    • Responsible for the distribution and immediate charting of all medications distributed to assigned campers. 
    • Responsible for pre-camp screening (temperature, throat, and general physical condition) of assigned campers and medication check-in and verification. 
    • Conducts pre-camp health screening of staff prior to camper arrival. 
    • In an emergency, assumes responsibility for any job deemed necessary by the Camp Director  or Associate Camp Director to ensure the safety of all campers and staff. 
    • At the end of the summer program: completes inventory of all medical supplies and submits recommendations for the next year; ensures that all medical records and pertinent documentation is complete and turned in to the Camp Director.

    Performing Arts Leader

    • Directly responsible to the Associate Camp Director, but works closely with Assistant Program Director and other program staff.  
    • Attends Supervisor/Program Staff Training prior to staff orientation. 
    • Attends and participates in staff orientation week and ongoing training sessions throughout the summer. 
    • During orientation, responsible for training staff in the rules and procedures of assigned program area. Safety and emergency procedures are to be emphasized and followed. 
    • Prepares program area and helps plan summer activities. 
    • Responsible for maintaining program area, and keeping equipment and supplies in order. This includes skit prop and costume management. 
    • Plans and implements activities for program area adapted to the different ability levels of all campers. Supervises campers in program area and utilizes staff in the most effective ways. 
    • Assists Assistant Program Director in leading Evening Program, which includes Dance, Talent show, Game Night, etc. 
    • Resides in assigned cabin and assists with camper care which includes providing and/or assisting as needed in the personal care of campers: dressing, bathing, toileting, grooming, feeding, lifting and transferring. 
    • Performs cabin duty at night and afternoon rest period according to a rotating schedule. 
    • Assists with cleaning of camp after campers depart. 
    • In an emergency, assumes responsibility for any job deemed necessary by the Camp Director or Associate Camp Director to ensure the safety of all campers and staff.

    Arts and Crafts Leader

    Unit Director

AbilityFirst Camp is seeking a dedicated and experienced Unit Director to lead our team and ensure a safe, nurturing, and fun camp environment for our campers with disabilities. This is your chance to bring joy and create lasting memories for our campers while fostering an inclusive community. 

    • Directly responsible to the Camp Director but consults daily with other supervisors regarding camper and staff concerns and issues.  
    • Attends Supervisor/Program Staff training prior to staff orientation to assist Camp Director and other staff in the planning of staff training and summer preparation. 
    • During orientation, responsible for training staff in all aspects of camper care and supervision in addition to other sessions assigned by the Camp Director. 
    • Supervises, directs, and evaluates the work of the counseling staff. 
    • Consults daily with the Camp Director in all issues pertaining to camper management: briefing and camper assignments; special needs; diet, restrictions; behavior management; personal care requirements; etc. 
    • Works closely with the camp nursing staff in the management of camper care. 
    • Creates and maintains accurate written records including: cabin assignments; duty schedules; restriction, allergy and feeder lists; bumps & bruises charts; shower charts; camper reports; incident reports. 
    • Assists when needed in program areas, cabins, and with personal care of campers: dressing, bathing, toileting, grooming, feeding, lifting and transferring. 
    • Performs” Supervisor on Duty” duties during staff off time, at least once per session including end of the evening lock up of camp. 
    • In an emergency, assumes responsibility for any job deemed necessary by the Camp Director to ensure the safety of all campers and staff. 
    • Completes counselor performance evaluations and reviews individually with each counselor. 
    • At the end of the summer program: ensures that all documentation is complete and given to the Camp Director. 
    Summer Camp

    Camp Counselor

This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of individuals with disabilities, from children as young as seven to older adults. Our camp provides a vibrant and supportive environment where every day is an adventure! 

    • Directly responsible to the Unit Director.  
    • Attends and participates in staff orientation week and ongoing training sessions throughout the summer. 
    • Responsible for the care and supervision of assigned campers. This includes providing and/or assisting as needed in the personal care needs of the campers: dressing, bathing, toileting, grooming, feeding, lifting and transferring. 
    • Prepares written evaluations on each assigned camper and submits to Unit Director each session. 
    • Performs cabin duty at night and afternoon rest period according to a rotating schedule. 
    • Assists program staff as needed during assigned activities as well as during evening programs. This includes assisting in the following program areas: swimming, sports, crafts, performing arts, and nature studies. 
    • On the last day of each session, assists in the cleaning and preparation of camp for the next incoming group of campers. 
    • In an emergency assumes responsibility for any job deemed necessary by the Camp Director or Associate Camp Director to ensure the safety of all campers and staff.
