The A Bar A Ranch is one of the West’s original guest ranches, established in 1922. We are located in southern Wyoming’s Medicine Bow Mountains, on the North Platte River.
A Bar A Ranch is in south-central Wyoming, near the border with Colorado. The nearest town is Encampment, Wyoming.

Guests visit from across the country and around the world to ride horses, fly-fish, hike, and enjoy other outdoor activities with their families and friends. Many of our guests have been returning to the Ranch for generations. Our beautiful remote location and the family atmosphere contributes to a unique sense of community among guests and staff at the A Bar A.
The Employee Experience

Room and Board
Staff members receive housing, meals, and use of ranch facilities, along with a monthly salary and a share of the general tips fund. Meals are simple, family-style and housing is basic, shared housing with other staff in dormitories or bunk houses.

Getting Here and Getting Around
The nearest airport is in Laramie, Wyoming (90 minutes away). Denver International Airport is 4 hours away. We can pick up staff members in Laramie, and you can fly there, or take a shuttle from the Denver airport. About half of our staff usually bring their own cars, and rides can be shared on days off, etc. We are located about 4 hours from Denver, 2 hours from Steamboat Springs, and 90 minutes from Laramie.
Staff members enjoy unlimited hiking on more than one hundred thousand acres of private land and National Forest. Horseback riding and fly-fishing opportunities are exceptional, including miles of private trails and private river and stream access. Use of guest facilities including the pool, tennis courts, golf course, and shooting ranges is also permitted, with some limitations.
Applicants must be available from at least the third week of May through the third week of August. Most jobs end in late September and some start earlier in May.

Our work ethic is to work hard as a team until the job is finished and done well, which means that the length of our work hours varies from day to day. All staff members work a 6-day work week. Staff are expected to assist in other departments at times.
