Fly Fishing Guide

Key traits for success: proven fly fishing experience/skills, guiding and teaching ability, customer service, stamina/work ethic, teamwork. Responsible for providing a safe and educational fly-fishing experience for adults and children, including casting lessons, drift boat and raft guiding, stream and river guiding, and knowledge of fly-tying, entomology, trout habitat, local ecology, and ranch history. Fishing guides provide group fishing instruction along with private lessons. Guides are responsible for driving guests to fishing areas, helping them with gear and equipment, guiding their fishing trip, serving meals (on certain fishing trips), and all other aspects of the fly-fishing experience. In addition, guides must keep their vehicles, boats, and fishing supply area clean and organized, and maintain fishing equipment in top condition. There is a fishing section in the ranch store and guides are responsible for seeing that it is set up with the items for sale displayed properly, as well as assisting the office personnel in knowing about the fishing merchandise and flies, and with sales and ordering. Guides maintain access paths to fishing areas and are responsible for weed control in these areas, as well as making recommendations for trout habitat maintenance and improvement. Guides are responsible for keeping track of fly inventory and communicating with the office for billing. At times when all guides are not busy guiding guests or completing other fishing-related tasks, fishing guides are expected to help in other departments on the ranch.
All fishing guides work a 6-day work-week with an average of 8 hours/day. They must be able to lift/carry at least 40 pounds.
