Be a Colorado Raft Guide This Summer - Check Out Our World Class Training Program!
Raft Masters is accepting applications for our 2016 summer guide training program as well applications for guide positions from qualified guides with a minimum of two years’ experience guiding Class 4 white water. No experience is required to be accepted into our training program. We will be hiring new guides from candidates who successfully complete training and certification, and who demonstrate enthusiasm, aptitude, teamwork, and the skills necessary to fit in with our close-knit family of guides. 2016 will be our 28th year of training the highest quality guides. Training with Raft Masters can open the door to guiding opportunities around the world. This is the job you will never forget!
Dates: 2016 training Sunday, May 22nd - Thursday, June 9th.
Raft Masters only trains top-notch guides. Period. We emphasize quality training rather than the number of guides we can "crank out". Prior to being accepted into our training program we will do a phone interview to prequalify you and answer any questions you may have. If you are invited to join our training you can be proud since not all applicants are accepted. Our training is intense and definitely not easy, and we will teach you how to do things other trainers will not. We want you to experience and learn to deal with situations you should expect to encounter as a guide under controlled circumstances rather than "under fire".
Our guide-training program is designed to train guides to our high standards for possible employment at Raft Masters. We exclusively hire our first-year (rookie) guides from those who we have trained, but cannot guarantee employment. Raft Masters guides are highly sought so if we are unable to hire you, you should not expect difficulty finding a job with one of the many other outfitters in the area.
The cost of this course is $550 per person plus a 9.5% Arkansas River Access Fee ($602.25 TOTAL). Payment of $300.00 is due upon making your reservation. The remaining balance is due two weeks prior to the first day of class. Cancellations made more than 14 days in advance will be refunded the entire amount, less a $50.00 administrative fee. If you cancel within the two weeks there will be no refunds. We limit our enrollment to a maximum of 20 trainees so we encourage early inquiries if you wish to ensure a position in this year’s class.
By Colorado statute, guides must have Basic First Aid and CPR. You are not required to have these for training, but they are required for certification, and by any future employer. For those who do not already have them, a First Aid and CPR course with a certified instructor will be held on an evening during the course. There is an additional charge for the instructor (usually about $40.00 per person, payable to the instructor). Please inquire when making your reservation.
We are hiring Raft Guides, CDL Bus Drivers, and Office Support Staff for both our Canon City and Idaho Springs locations. Raft Masters will be hiring newly trained (rookie) guides this year. We are also interested in experienced guides with at least two years of Class 4 or higher guiding experience. If you qualify please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Room and Board
Raft Masters includes with training on-site employee bunkhouses capable of accommodating 12 males and 8 females, separately. The bunkhouses have bathroom and kitchen facilities. These bunks are reserved for trainees only during the training period. After training they are available to employees for $25.00 per week. Please note that we love dogs at Raft Masters but do not bring your dog with you. We can't accommodate them.
Getting Here and Getting Around
Raft Masters trains on the Arkansas River, which is the most popular rafting river in the US. The Arkansas River is a fun, exciting, and challenging river and guides trained on the “Ark” are respected around the country. Raft Masters’ training facility, located at our headquarters in Canon City, Colorado, is just 45 miles southwest of Colorado Springs at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. We will be hiring guides from our 2016 guide training course to fill positions both in Canon City as well as for our base in Idaho Springs (25 miles west of Denver), where we run commercial trips on Clear Creek.
