The Vermont Youth Conservation Corps is a non-profit youth, leadership, conservation, and education organization that promotes the values of personal responsibility, hard work, education, and respect for the environment.
Spend this summer leading a VYCC Crew of 6 to 10 Corps Members (16 – 24 years of age) and have an experience of a lifetime. Crews complete high-priority conservation projects such as state park management, historical building preservation, trail maintenance, and backcountry construction.
VYCC Crews are intense and rewarding, often leading to lasting friendships and personal growth. Throughout this meaningful experience, Crew Leaders have the chance to make a difference in their crew members’ lives and in the world around them. Through completing high-priority conservation projects Crew Leaders teach participants’ job and leadership skills and also expand their awareness of social, political, and environmental issues.

Living circumstances depend on what crew type you lead. Park Crews live with their Crew in a State Park cabin. Wilderness and Roving Crews camp in the backcountry or in a State Park in a VYCC issued tent. All room and board is provided for residential Crew Leaders. VYCC does not provide room and board for Community Crews and prefers leaders who have a connection with the community in which the Crew will be working.
For most positions vehicles are provided to VYCC employees while on duty. A personal vehicle is generally not required, but it is recommended that you bring a vehicle (or befriend someone with a vehicle) if you plan to travel on your days off.
Being a VYCC Crew Leader is the ultimate summer job with the ability to be outside all summer long! Crews are based throughout Vermont and some even work and live in multiple locations throughout the session. Some of the best hiking and mountain biking trails in Vermont are within a 10 minute drive of our headquarters in Richmond. We are also located 20 minutes from Burlington, on beautiful Lake Champlain, where you can visit the waterfront boardwalk, rent a kayak, or camp out at one of our beautiful state parks.
Crew Leaders often get together on their days off or between sessions for their own adventures. VYCC is located within a few hours’ drive to the Maine Coast, Boston, and Montreal.
