Sportsman’s Cove Lodge is a highly acclaimed, saltwater fishing lodge located by air, 20 minutes west of Ketchikan in the pristine wilderness of Prince of Wales Island, Alaska. We are looking for hard working, self-starting, service oriented, clean-cut young men and women to further our vision of offering our guests the trip of a lifetime.
We are located in remote Saltery Cove and have been for the past 19 years. To locate us on a chart we are N55º 23’ and W132º20’. We offer our guests, all-inclusive guided fishing packages in the protected waters of the Inside Passage utilizing specially designed 37’ charter vessels. We host a discriminating clientèle that can vacation anywhere they want. They choose Sportsman’s Cove Lodge.
It is our mission to offer our guests a level of service that keeps them coming back year after year. Our return rate of 85% is a testimonial to the quality staff we employ and the level of service our staff has to offer.
This is a very structured and disciplined environment. The work is demanding, with long hours the norm. From mid-June thru mid-September we work everyday with no days off. It will be approximately 94 days in a row. You must be available for the entire season.
The staff consists of approximately 35 individuals divided into 5 departments, each with its own Team Leader. What the guests like about the Lodge is the remoteness, however “remote” is not for everyone. It takes a very unique individual to thrive in our environment. As with any job, it is what you make of it. It could quite possibly be the most rewarding time of your life.
When your work is finished there is time to go fishing, hiking, exploring and experiencing the wilderness outdoors. There are three kayaks and 2 outboard-powered skiffs available for staff recreation. At times, Captain Mac is available to take us staff fishing for salmon and halibut. So, as the summer progresses and you become more proficient at you job, it allows for more time during your lunchtime or after working hours to explore!!

The Lodge is completely self-contained, most staff quarters are double occupancy and room and board is provided. We have a sit down breakfast meeting each and every morning to line out the day’s endeavors. There are two options for lunch: making it from the “spike table” or raiding the fridge for leftovers! Dinner is served family style in the Commons Building.

Compensation for the amount of hours worked is free room, board, use of laundry facilities, no charge for bait, fishing gear, rain gear, or fuel for the skiffs.
All staff members are paid on a monthly salary basis, with equal shares in the tip pool. Average gratuities for July and August is $1,000.00 per month with the average being less in June and September because we are only open for 2 weeks during these months.

There a three ways to arrive in Ketchikan to begin your employment with us:
Alaska Airlines from Seattle: There are three flights per day, northbound, which correspond with the local air taxis to service outlying communities
Alaska Marine Highway from Bellingham, WA: Walk on or drive aboard the ferry for a 40-hour ferry ride thru the Inside Passage. Great for backpackers or just for the travel experience. Meet new folks off on their own Alaska experience!
Drive through British Columbia, Canada to Prince Rupert and then catch the Alaska Marine Highway ferry to Ketchikan, aprox 8-10 hours, depending on the size of the ship. You MUST have a passport to travel thru Canada.
