Located on Maine’s dramatic coast, Oakland Seaside Resort, offers a beautifully relaxing environment for guests who often return year after year. Our 50 acres, half-mile of oceanfront and lake beach makes us seem like a small town.

Oakland House Seaside Resort has been owned and operated by members of our family since 1889. The guest experience is of an old-fashioned and relaxed coastal resort, with service, food quality and sophistication that are quite high. Our on-site organic gardens provide much of the specialty herbs, vegetables, and flowers used in the dining rooms and kitchen. Accommodations vary from luxurious to campy depending upon the room or cottage selected. They are all fun and inviting. Our primary goal is to provide a friendly and welcoming environment. We strive to provide friendly and attentive service without appearing hectic, which we sometimes are.

We are seeking strongly motivated individuals with excellent hospitality skills and an ease being with people. No matter what your position hospitality is important. We often ask employees to wear different hats as the need arises. Our family oriented resort requires cheerfulness and a neat appearance.

Recreation

The Blue Hill area is rich in culture and the arts (music, art galleries, pottery shops, libraries, etc.) and opportunities for outdoor recreation in a stunning environment (nature preserves, hiking, sunbathing, swimming, ocean going boating, and lake fishing, kayaking, etc.). More nearby towns are Stonington, Castine, Ellsworth, and Bar Harbor which are between a half-hour and an hour drive away. On site is ping-pong, foosball, and videos in the barn. Staff may use the guest recreational facilities as available.

Room and Board

Housing options: Private Room and Shared Room

Most seasonal staff members elect to stay on site. We charge $70/week for room and board. There are a few single rooms, many double/shared rooms, and a few select private rooms with private bath. We have a staff internet room and a TV room too.

Salaried Positions:

We offer competitive salaries to our professional level employees. Some salaried positions merit an end of season bonus based upon performance during the season.

General Staff Positions:

We offer our employees a base pay starting at $7.00/hour depending upon position and experience. We also award a weekly merit bonus of up to $40/week. When your date agreement is fulfilled you will receive this amount as a lump sum. Any tips guests leave for you are yours to keep.

Waitstaff positions:

Waitstaff hourly wage ranges from $6.75-$7.15/hour depending upon guest rating (this is a merit-based system we use to encourage great service). Tips that guests leave are yours to keep. Waitstaff receive an additional weekly merit bonus of up to $40/week to be paid in lump sum at the end of your date commitment period. Any tips guests leave for you are yours to keep.

These wages are before State and federal withholding tax, social security, and Medicare. Reporting of tips may be required by the employee.

Transportation Info

Many staff members prefer to have their own vehicle since the nearest town of Blue Hill is 10 miles away. A good-sized general store is within a 20 minute walking distance. If you don’t bring a car there will be others who do. We do provide transportation as possible on days off and for staff arrivals and departures. Many staff members arrive and depart by bus in Bangor, Maine which is about an hour and 10 minute drive away.
