We are lucky to call Montana our home, where majestic mountains, flowing streams, expansive ranchlands, and quaint neighborhoods are the norm. We are gearing up in 2008 to make the largest impact yet.
the MCC will have the capacity to work with an unprecedented 300 participants on its crews. With more young people engaged in service, we can accomplish more on-the-ground fieldwork, providing tangible benefits for Montana’s precious communities and environment.
The MCC is a non-profit organization with a mission to equip young people with the skills and values to be engaged citizens who improve their communities and environment. Our headquarters is in Bozeman, and crews are based out of five regional offices: Northern Rockies, Western Wildlands, Greater Yellowstone, Central Divide, and Eastern Wildlands. We work with a variety of professional land managers from the US Forest Service, National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, MT Dept. of Fish, Wildlife and Parks, and more than 100 community-based nonprofit organizations.
As a member of the MCC, your home is a tent for much of the time, with meals shared around camp with fellow crew members. You will delve into the meaning of service while collaborating with professional land managers; solving critical habitat challenges caused by fencing, erosion, invasive plants, and forest fire; create safe trails and access to some of the nation’s premier wilderness areas, national parks and forests; support community-based non profit organizations through volunteer service; and assist low-income families by weatherizing their homes to conserve energy.

Montana and its bordering states are full of outdoor recreational activities: hiking, camping, fly-fishing, rock climbing, kayaking, mountain biking, rafting, bathing in hot springs, touring our National Parks - Glacier and Yellowstone. The list goes on and on!
Participants are responsible for housing. Often members live together, and our regional staff helps facilitate those connections. We provide a modest meal allowance while you are on extended projects out of town.
The MCC is a host site for AmeriCorps National Service participants. As a crew member, you would join a national service movement that is positively impacting communities and the environment nationwide. You would also receive a living stipend ($1,000 per month), health insurance, and an education award ($2,363) upon completion of your term of service. You can use this education award to pay for existing student loans or future education.
Transportation is not provided to get to Montana. Once you’re here the MCC provides transportation to and from projects.
If you want to explore Montana on your time off, we recommend you have a car. Depending on which town you'll be based out of, a bike would be handy.
