Recreation

There are an incredible number of things to do in Skagway!

Like to hike? In addition to the Chilkoot Trail, which follows the footsteps of the gold rush stampeders, Skagway has a world class trail system with a wide range of hiking trails with varying difficulty.

Additional activities include camping, fishing, bonfires, rafting, horseback riding, photography and bicycling to just name a few.

The Skagway Recreation Center provides multiple outlets for physical fitness including a Gymnasium. They also have a 1700 square foot climbing wall, a fully furnished weight room and cardio room. They also offer many fitness classes and yoga. Anyone is welcome to use the Recreation Center for a nominal fee and memberships may be purchased. alt text

Room and Board

Housing options: Private Cabin and Shared House

We have both single and shared housing available. Shared housing (2 per room) is in our modern 6 bedroom, 3 bath home in Skagway and costs $200 per month. It’s about a 7 minute walk from the Dredge.

Individual sleeping cabins are more rustic and located on Dredge property. There is a communal kitchen and bathhouse available. Cost is $175 per month plus minimal cost of propane for heating individual cabin.

Washers and dryers are provided at no cost for employees.

Employees are responsible for preparing their own meals. This will allow you to prepare your own meals according to your schedule.

No pets are allowed. All shared facilities are non-smoking.

Transportation Info

Getting here: The closest major airport to Skagway is Juneau. Alaska Airlines flies to Juneau daily. Once there, you can fly to Skagway on a 45-minute commuter flight. Both LAB and Wings of Alaska fly each day, weather permitting. The ferry also makes daily runs between Juneau and Skagway, which is a cheaper option. The Alaskan Marine Highway System ferry terminal is about a four mile cab ride from the Juneau airport. Once you’ve arrived in Skagway, someone from our staff will be there to greet you and bring you to the Klondike Gold Dredge.

Once you’re here: a car isn’t really necessary. Walking and bicycling will get you anywhere you want to go in Skagway.
