CCYC is a youth employment, education, and leadership program for youth ages 16-23 (crew leaders can be over 23) operated in partnership with four school districts in Southeast Utah, Northwest New Mexico, and Northern Arizona. The goal of CCYC is to improve work readiness, employment prospects, and economic independence for youth, while also teaching them respect for natural resources and the outdoors. The work projects include habitat restoration, fire fuels reduction (mechanical thinning), trail construction and maintenance, invasive species removal and treatment, and other natural resource management tasks. CCYC promotes healthy lifestyles, through encouraging youth toward outdoor careers that provide ample regular physical activity, improve life skills, improve job skills, and help youth complete high school and help push them towards a college education.
