Summer at Camp Killoqua

Joining our staff is the start of an unforgettable summer experience. Located one hour north of Seattle, Camp Killoqua is a Northwest tradition, complete with sunny days at the lake and living units set in 185 forested acres.

Founded in 1941, Killoqua is open to boys and girls in grades 1-12. Our programs emphasize individual attention, acceptance of differences, appreciation of the out-of-doors and having fun together. Camp activities include swimming, boating, biking, initiatives, low and high ropes courses, climbing wall, arts & crafts and archery. Killoqua also offers teen trips, horseback riding and leadership programs. Acceptance and participation in our programs is open to everyone, regardless of race, religion, socioeconomic status, disability, sexual orientation or other aspect of diversity. Killoqua is owned and operated by Camp Fire USA Snohomish County Council, and accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA).

Recreation

alt text Killoqua is a great base camp for exploring the Pacific Northwest on weekend breaks. In addition to 185 forested acres and lakefront on-site, we are close to many regional highlights. Seattle is one hour away – there’s lots to do on a weekend evening out. Ferries headed to the San Juan Islands are an hour north. Many North Cascades hiking/camping spots are accessible within two hours or less. And Vancouver, BC is about two hours away.

Housing options: Shared Cabin

alt text Killoqua has a variety of housing units. Staff live with campers, or in a similar structure as the kids, such as platform tents, cabins, and Adirondacks (smaller 4-person cabins). Campers are grouped in units by similar grade levels, and in cabin groups with kids of the same age. The living areas generally don’t have heat or electricity; though warm bedding and summer weather combine to make it a fun way to live for the season. Each unit has a shower house with electricity and flush toilets, or bathrooms included in some cabins. Killoqua has a staff laundry room, with modern washers and dryers. Meals and snacks are provided throughout the week, plus food is available during weekend breaks. Vegetarian and vegan options are available.

During time off, staff are welcome to use two lounges. They include computers with internet access, plug-ins to charge cell phones (used only away from kids), and shower facilities. During daily time off, you can get into town if needed. Plus, we are minutes from the supplier of some of the world’s best milkshakes!

Benefits

alt text Imagine working everyday in beautiful outdoor surroundings and making a lasting, positive impact on campers. The sense of community, adventure and fun is unmatched by most any other job out there. Killoqua attracts people who share a dedication to working with young people, the ability to work hard and play hard, and an interest in gaining new experiences. You’ll build new skills and work beside people from all over the US and other countries, forming lasting friendships and memories. All of this happens as we work toward a common goal of creating the best possible summer experience for our campers. Benefits include salary plus full housing and board, free laundry, and free internet access. Summer positions may be developed as paid internships.

Transportation Info

Transportation depends on where you’re coming from. Many staff drive to camp, and park onsite. If coming from father away, you can travel by bus, train or plane to the Seattle area, and we’ll arrange transportation to get you to camp from there.
