A summer camp for seriously ill children

The Mission of Camp Boggy Creek is to enrich the lives of children who have chronic or life threatening illnesses by creating camping experiences that are memorable, exciting, fun, empowering, physically safe and medically sound.

Camp Boggy Creek serves children who have chronic and life-threatening illness such as cancer, asthma, HIV/AIDS, sickle cell, and heart disease. Our campers attend Boggy Creek free of charge. While the children are here, the illness stay in the background; we focus on having fun and empowering our campers. We believe in teamwork, community, and expanding lives. Our staff members have the opportunity to experience a life-altering summer, to make long lasting friendships, to meet people from around the world, to learn interpersonal skills, and to play hard with some great kids. alt text

For summer sessions, Camp Boggy Creek hires nearly 70 employees to work from mid-May to mid-August serving the more than 1,000 children who attend summer camp. Applicants must be at least 19 years old and employment is contingent on references, criminal background check, and completion of medical history/physical forms. We try to have summer staff hired by mid-April, so apply early.

Camp work is demanding and requires long hours, curfews, limited time off, lack of privacy, and pets to be left at home. We play hard with children, and the rewards are life changing. Staff leave having learned interpersonal skills, worked in a community that believes in teamwork, made long-lasting friendships, discovered new talents, and contributed to bringing joy and fun back into the lives of these seriously ill children.

Recreation

Camp Boggy Creek is located just 45 minutes from Orlando, home of Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure and other popular attractions. Less than an hour in the opposite direction, the Daytona Beach area is a popular hangout as well. Other recreation nearby includes the tubing at DeLeon Springs; the adventure of the nearby state park; the shopping, movies and fine dining of the Sanford/Heathrow area; as well as the small town beauty of Mount Dora and Deland.

Although considered in the middle of the woods, Camp Boggy Creek is located right in the middle of the fun that is Florida. With something for everybody, there is no better place to spend a summer. Just imagine the possibilities… alt text
