Summer Jobs in Alaska with Allen Marine Tours

The best way to experience Southeast Alaska's majestic scenery, amazing wildlife, native history and frontier lifestyle is on the water.

Summer Jobs with Allen Marine Tours

Allen Marine Tours is a family-owned company based in Sitka that has been conducting day-cruises for visitors to Alaska since 1970. Three generations of the Allen family are active in the company. With a fleet of over 20 vessels – and operations based in Juneau, Ketchikan and Sitka – we are the largest and most experienced day-cruise company in Alaska.

All vessels we operate were built by us in our Sitka shipyard. Catamarans dominate our fleet. The superior speed, maneuverability and stability of their twin-hull design is perfect for Alaskan waters. Our many years of sightseeing experience are evident in each vessel we design and build. And our highest priorities are safety, comfort, panoramic viewing ... and exceeding the expectations of our guests.

Recreation

Alaska is like nowhere else in on the earth. Its great expanses of raw, dramatic, untouched wilderness have a profound effect on visitors & residents alike. In Southeast Alaska there are countless glaciers and remote islands that are home to an abundance of wildlife.

What is there to do in Southeast Alaska? Just about everything from strenuous to leisurely! Just to get started you can kayak, hike or mountain bike. Camping is available for tenting, renting local Forest Service cabins, or even remote cabins that can only be reached by boat or float plane. And fishing is world-class. Try your hand at fly fishing or rent a skiff and fish for halibut and salmon. Local recreation centers offer a variety of activities from swimming to racquetball to marital arts to belly dancing! Explore your artistic side by attending a wide variety of festivals and performances scheduled throughout the year featuring local and visiting artists in music, dance and theatre. Local artists and experts offer workshops and lectures in traditional native and classical art forms, natural and local history and science. There are many museums where you can explore the natural history, cultural history and artistic creations of our communities. And local arts and crafts abound at galleries in across Southeast. Or just join your friends at the end of the day to enjoy a hearty Alaskan meal of all-you-can-eat crab or awesome salmon pulled from the local waters.

Transportation Info

All of our tour operation locations - Juneau, Ketchikan and Sitka - can only be reached from the outside world by plane, marine ferry, cruiseship or private vessel. There is no land access to any Allen Marine job location. Allen Marine does not offer transportation assistance or reimbursement to reach the job location. When in town, each of our tour communities is very different with their transportation needs.

Juneau is the state capital (population 30,000) with a limited public bus system that connects the main commerce centers but does not extend far outside the main city limits. Public transportation ends 3 miles from our facility. It is recommended to bring a vehicle to Juneau or consider purchasing a used vehicle (usually ample quantity). Car pooling among crew members is very common.

Ketchikan is Alaska’s “Salmon Capital” and the fourth largest city (population 14,000) in the state. There is a public bus system that connects the main commerce centers but does not extend far outside the main city limits. It is possible to live comfortably in Ketchikan without a vehicle, but many of the state & federal parks, including the majority of the hiking trails, are more easily reached by auto. It is recommended that if you do not bring a car to Ketchikan, you at least bring a bike to get you around town.

Sitka, Alaska’s first capital, is considered one of Alaska’s most picturesque and historically fascinating communities (population 8,900). Sitka is a pedestrian town with 7 miles of road in each direction from the downtown area. Local bus service is available, but biking or walking is easy. Allen Marine Tours housing is located ¼ mile from Allen Marine Tours.
