During our 20 years here at Seagull Outfitters, we have an extremely common comment that we get from our customers, and it goes like this: "Boy I wish I would've done something like this when I was young. And now I'm all grown up with kids and responsibilities that I have to resort to coming on vacation for just a week out of the year. And you get to stay here all summer long, you lucky duck. Don't let this be you!
You have the opportunity right now. If you've ever thought it'd be fun to work in the boundary waters, now's your chance. Do it while you're young. You've thought it was fun; we can assure you that it is fun.
The Boundary Waters Canoe Area and Quetico Provincial Parks are two very similar parks that together make up a total of 2 million acres of untouched, completely protected wilderness area. These two parks are designed to provide canoers an opportunity to paddle, explore and fish these uninhabited waters that are only accessed by means of canoe and by foot. There are no motors allowed and that's what makes it so enjoyable for those of us that prefer the peace and quiet of a paddle dipping into the water.

For those who enjoy the outdoors and fishing, there is a staff boat that we provide for staff to use during their off hours. This boat is shared between all of the staff members. This is a wonderful way for you to get out and experience some of the world class fishing that the boundary waters and especially Seagull Lake has to offer.
Also available during your off time is access to our fleet of canoes, tents, sleeping bags, Duluth packs and all other camping equipment. We also have two sea kayaks that have been a big hit the past two years and are lots of fun to paddle around in, and those too are available to the staff. We want you to be active and enjoy your time here. More detailed information will be provided upon your hiring.
During the fall of 2004 and spring of 2005, we added a wonderful brand new staff housing development right on our property that will only leave you a three minute walk down to the outfitting building where we work. This building is designed to hold a maximum of 10 staff members. The staff building is split directly in half so that the living/common area is separated from the sleeping quarters.
There is a common area with living room and dining room, kitchen and bathrooms. There are also 3 full size refrigerator/freezers and one large deep freezer for all of the staff to share. You do provide your own food.
The other half of the staff building is split up in to six separate dorm-like rooms. The dorm rooms will have a set of bunk beds, two dressers and a desk, much like a dorm room in college. The dorms are designed for two people per room, and that will be figured out upon arrival in the spring.
Our starting salary is $1200 per month and we provide the housing and utilities.
About half of our staff drive to Seagull Outfitters. For those that do not have a car, they may fly into Duluth, MN and take a bus into Grand Marais, MN. We are located one hour from Grand Marais and are happy to pick them up there. A car is not necessary at Seagull Outfitters. You will be living and working and recreating in one of the most beautiful, peaceful and quiet places on earth.
