Mackinac which is pronounced Mack-i-naw, is a summer travel destination in northern Michigan.

One must take a ferry to get there and the only modes of transportation on the island are walking, bicycling, and horse & surrey.

The Chippewa Indians called the island Michilimackinac - generally translated as: Great Spirits of Great Turtle.
