Field Team Members

The Maine Conservation Corps (MCC) places members throughout Maine to serve on conservation projects. Positions range from three month to ten month commitments. The MCC programs focus on conservation, environmental education, and meaningful opportunities for our members to learn new skills and gain experience in environmental careers. During their terms of service our members receive weekly living allowances, health insurance, and are able to earn AmeriCorps Education Awards to pay for college or student loans.

 

 

Trail Team Leaders 2008

Maine Conservation Corps is dedicated to conservation projects, volunteers, education, and leadership skills. MCC engages teams in challenging, high quality trail projects.

Projects range from community projects to remote sites on the Appalachian Trail – where teams learn traditional stone working skills while rebuilding portions of America’s premier long distance hiking trail though the Wilderness of Maine.

Typical duties:

Lead and teach trail construction and other projects - Provide leadership and training to corps members and volunteers (members are young adults) - Complete reports - Coordinate food, equipment, and transportation for a team of 6 people - Camp in tents along with team members during service sessions - Drive teams to project sites in vans and trucks.

Training:

Trail skills - Rigging, stone and timber construction - Wilderness First Aid - Crew Management - Instruction and experience with Leadership - Chainsaw Certification.
Lester Kenway coordinates project development and skills training.

Dates:

May 5 to August 15, 2008 or May 5 to November 15, 2008

Qualifications:

One season (3 months is OK) of trail work experience with one season in an outdoor leadership role - Ability to teach trail skills - Previous experience with construction work - Must be in good health and physically fit with a clean driving record - Job requires a sense of humor and the ability to maintain a safe and enjoyable work environment - Must be at least 20 years old, and a US Citizen - Must be able to motivate and work with people of all ages and backgrounds.

Benefits:

$425 -$475 per week, dependent on qualifications and experience - Health Insurance - AmeriCorps Education award (if eligible) $1250 – $2362

The Maine Conservation Corps is dedicated to accomplishing outdoor recreation and conservation projects. MCC engages teams throughout the State of Maine.

Typical Duties:

Rebuild the Appalachian Trail - Improve trails throughout Maine - Build Great Things with Great People

MCC crews:

Have fun and make new friends - Live in some of Maine’s most beautiful places - Learn outdoor living skills - Build experience in the field of Natural Resources - Improve fitness through rugged and satisfying outdoor service - Help maintain and restore Maine’s Park and Public Lands

Dates:

May 21 to August 15, 2008
May 21 to November 14, 2008

Qualifications:

Have the ability to live and perform strenuous work under challenging conditions, have the desire to learn and serve with others to make a difference, be at least 18 years old, and must be a US citizen.

Benefits:

$240 per week and health insurance - $1250 or $2360 AmeriCorps education award if eligible
