Seasonal Professional - Caretaker / Maintenance Position

Caretaker/Maintenance Positions

Seasonal caretaker/maintenance contract, 10- 20 weeks.  May - September preferred.  Start and end dates can be adjusted.

Long Pond Cabins is a family-oriented lake-side vacation spot located in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York, is in need of two caretakers/maintenance workers to assist in the opening, running, and closing of the park.

Contract payment will range from $6500 to $9000 based on experience.  Contract includes opening of cabins, maintenance and repairs, assisting campers, closing of cabins.  Contract is based on the agreed period of time and requires on-call duties and coverage.

The position includes housing in a modest, shared 2-bedroom lake view cabin.  The caretaker will perform the following duties:   (applicant should have basic knowledge of the following activities).

  • Cabin repair/upkeep: carpentry, plumbing, roofing, electrical, screens, decking, steps, painting, flooring, water lines, septic systems, etc.
  • Project assessment, getting supplies and materials at local stores (Long Pond vehicle may be used) and seeing projects to completion.
  • Clean cabins for 4 hours on Saturdays and as needed during the week.
  • Assist guests in lighting propane gas heaters and in preparing woodstoves (includes bringing firewood to cabins and removal of ashes).
  • Lawn maintenance and grounds work: May involve use of chainsaw, weed whacker, and power mowers. Responsible for light maintenance of equipment, as appropriate.
  • Beach maintenance: rake beach, clean docks and raft, pick up trash, trash disposal.
  • Painting: interior and exterior.
  • Maintenance of recycling area and removal of recyclables.
  • Minimal camper check-in
  • On-call coverage and responsibility
  • Daily water testing
  • & Daily rounds (beach, play areas, garbage, etc.)
  • Saturday and Sunday is a mandatory day (cabin switch over)

Applicants must be able to assist owners, work with others, work independently, and be self-motivated.  Must have a valid US driver’s license. Applicants must have their own automobile for personal use. Caretaker is responsible for own meals and regular cleaning of their cabin.
