SECOND COOK (Filled for 2008/09)

The Kay El Bar Second Cook will prepare and serve staff breakfast at 7 a.m. and guest breakfast at 8 a.m. five mornings a week. He/she will support the head cook in whatever manner the cook feels is most appropriate---baking or doing prep. The Second Cook is responsible for Saturday dinner and all meals on Sunday. The operations part of the job entails detailing areas of the ranch to ensure a high level of cleanliness.
The Second Cook works 5 1/2 days a week
Monday-Thursday: 6 am - 11 am (cook) and
                                   2 pm - 5 pm (operations)
Saturday: 3 pm - 8 pm (cook)
Sunday: 6 am – 1 pm and 4 pm - 7 pm (cook)
Operations 4 nights a week: 6:30-8:45pm

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
The Kay El Bar breakfast cook/prep/baker must be a team player who can work well with the head cook, management, the owners, and the other staff. He/she must be open to head cook input regarding preparation of dishes working together to create the best food products possible. He/she must have a positive attitude, be pleasant to guests, able to get along with other people and treat others with respect and consideration. He/she needs to be able to lift 50 pounds. He/she needs to use good hygienic practices working hard to meet health codes and to maintain a clean and orderly work environment. He/she needs to be a skilled cook able to bake homemade bread and pastries, prepare high quality food in a timely manner, and execute effective and attractive presentation of the food. He/she must be willing to follow the rules of the ranch and to present himself/herself to the public at the ranch and in town as a positive, supportive part of the Kay El Bar enterprise.

The job responsibilities will be to serve the lunch on Saturday and prepare food for Saturday night dinner and the meals on Sunday. Must keep the kitchen clean and orderly, store usable leftovers and wash and put up the cooking pots, pans and utensils. The kitchen must be clean for the regular cook when he/she arrives Monday morning.

OFFICE MANAGER (Filled for 2008/09)

The primary function of the office manager is to deal with our guests. This person is the “voice of the ranch” as he/she will most often be the voice on the phone and the presence in the office taking care of all guest needs. He/she must be comfortable acting as ranch host able to warmly interact with individuals from all over, all ages, at the ranch and on the phone. The office manager must have the social poise necessary to be a proactive host or hostess assessing needs and meeting them within the ranch community.

The Office Manager will begin work September 5. Training will be at the ranch and cover all aspects of the office and ranch in general.

The Office Manager’s responsibilities include:

  • Completing general management duties which will include guest check ins and check outs, ranch orientation tours, guest comment sheets, relaying guest requests and problems to the appropriate person(s), brochure and information request letters, booking letters, data base, telephone and reservations, town errands, and hosting.
  • Routine maintenance and watering of flower gardens.
  • Computer work including horse lists and all other support tasks needed.
  • Basic office tasks such as filing and keeping office clean and organized.
  • Maintenance of emporium (ranch store) – stocking, inventory, keeping organized and clean.

The Office Manager must be adept at Word, Access with some desktop publishing helpful. Must be a self-starter and highly motivated to create and maintain the best image of Kay El Bar at all times.

The Office Manager will be the go-to person, for guests and staff alike. When the GM is off the property the Office Manager will be in charge.

The Office Manager works a 5 ½ day week (55-hour +/- work week).

OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT    

Keeping our beautiful ranch clean and well maintained is as important as any other aspect of guest relations.  The atmosphere established in our dining room and at our cook outs is also vitally important to our guests.  Our operations staff is responsible for both areas--- upkeep of public rooms, outside areas, and guest rooms as well as towel laundry, serving food, doing dishes and maintaining the serving area of kitchen.   

HEAD OF OPERATIONS (Filled for 2008/09)

Responsibilities of Head of Operations include:

  • Directing the operations staff
  • Preparing the daily work schedule and checking on quality of work
  • Keeping an inventory of supplies and supervising their use and storage
  •  Overseeing laundry
  •  Supervising the order and cleanliness of all storage and work areas
  •  Assessing part-time needs and hiring workers as needed 

The Head of Operations must be leader who can motivate and direct the operations staff and execute good quality control over the dining room and housekeeping areas.  Must be a self starter with strong sense of responsibility and willingness to take the necessary effort to maintain the highest quality standards in the dining room, kitchen, public rooms and guest rooms.  

Works 5 ½ day week (55-hour +/- work week), split shift from 7:15 am to about 1:30 pm and from 6:30 pm to about 8:30 pm.

OPERATIONS - HOUSEKEEPING / WAIT STAFF

Duties include upkeep of public rooms, outside areas, and guest rooms as well as towel and rag laundry, serving food, doing dishes and maintaining serving area of itchen. Works 5 ½ day week (50-hour +/- work week), split shift from 7:15 am to about 1:30 pm and from 6:30 pm to about 8:30 pm. Must be detail oriented, able to focus on completion of tasks, organized and have excellent people skills. Warmth and smiles a must. Experience a plus.

HEAD WRANGLER(Filled for 2008/09)

Activity at the Kay El Bar centers around horseback riding. We have a diverse herd of horses, exceptional riding terrain and an excellent program of instruction.

The Head Wranglers responsibilities include directing all aspects of the Kay El Bar equine program:

  • Care and maintenance of the horses and tack
  • Managing the wranglers employed at the Kay El Bar
  • Assessing needs for part-time wranglers and hiring them
  • Implementing the Kay El Bar program of instruction and safety Trail development and maintenance
  • Assuring that guest equine needs are anticipated and met

The Head Wrangler must be a manager. He/she must have strong leadership qualities, a deep knowledge of horses and their day to day care and the ability to act quickly in emergency situations. He/she must have highly developed social skills and the intuitive ability to match guests with horses. Must be able to interact successfully with all personality types, ages and genders.

The Head Wrangler works a 5 ½ day week (55-hour +/- work week), with schedule to be determined.

WRANGLER(Filled for 2008/09)

Duties include the day to day care of the horses and tack. He/she must learn the trail system, lead trail rides, instruct guests in the Kay El Bar method of horseback riding and maintain leadership of horses and guests at the corral and on the trail. Must be a conversant trail guide willing to learn the Kay El Bar equine policies and procedures and able to instruct guests according to the ranch program. Good people skills a must.

The Wrangler works a 5 ½ day week (55-hour +/- work week), to include morning feeding, and cocktails and dinner with guests twice a week.

MAINTENANCE WRANGLER

Duties include all aspects of ranch maintenance including some gardening. Must have basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry and problem solving skills.

Wrangler duties include the day to day care of the horses and tack. He/she must learn the trail system, lead trail rides, instruct guests in the Kay El Bar method of horseback riding and maintain leadership of horses and guests at the corral and on the trail. Must be a conversant trail guide willing to learn the Kay El Bar equine policies and procedures and able to instruct guests according to the ranch program. Good people skills a must..

The Maintenance/Wrangler works a 5 ½ day week (55-hour +/- work week), with schedule to be determined.

DATES

Staff reports for work September 23rd to the 30th to prepare for ranch opening October 12. The season ends May 1st and staff works through May 4th to close the ranch for the season.  

COMPENSATION and REQUIREMENTS

Employees are paid every other week thru the season with an end of season bonus. Room and board is provided at no charge to the staff. A Kay El Bar employee must be a team player who can work well with management and the other staff members. He/she must have a positive attitude, be pleasant to guests, able to get along with other people treating them with respect and consideration. He/she must be willing to follow the rules of the ranch and to present himself/herself to the public (at the ranch and in town) as a positive, supportive part of the Kay El Bar enterprise.
