Seasonal Entry Level - Outdoor Educator
Growing Outdoor Education Center in Southeastern WI seeks experienced cabin counselors and trail leaders for Spring 2013.
The students (3rd -5th grade) who visit House in the Wood Outdoor Education Center refine their essential life and social skills in a safe outdoor environment. With the instruction of fully trained staff members, students learn about the natural world and explore various environments including forest, lake and marsh habitats. As a residential Outdoor Education center we are able to provide a complete outdoor experience for inner city students.
In 2013 we will host about 130 3rd-5th graders from our partner school (Rowe Elementary School, Chicago IL) over three weeks of outdoor education sessions.
Qualifications:
· Experience with supervising children
· Experience with teaching outdoor lessons or a desire to learn (We will train you!)
· A positive and friendly attitude with children
· Able to attend pre-session on-site training
· Able to work independently when teaching lessons
· Able to work closely with other staff members
Training:
May 4th and 5th
Employment Dates:
May 5th – May 24th (weekends off)
Positions available:
Cabin Counselor : Supervise cabin group of 8 to 12 boys or girls in the cabin day and night. Follow the schedule, procedures and lesson plans as covered in training. Counselors are responsible for teaching “life skills”—personal and interpersonal skills for living in a cabin group. (Residency required)
Trail Leader : Teach multiple nature related lessons (indoors and outdoors) to groups of 8-12 3rd- 5th grade students. Lessons include Forest Ecology, Conservation, Aquatic Study, Bird study, Insect study, Teambuilding, Plot study and Mammal study.
