The Meadowbrook Day Camp
The Meadowbrook Day Camp is a private, nonprofit recreational summer program for boys and girls entering kindergarten in the fall, to age 12 1/2. Meadowbrook’s planned program is designed to provide campers with a variety of activities each day in a safe, nurturing, and fun atmosphere. The camper’s day is balanced with activities that emphasize social, physical, and emotional growth and learning. The program’s design varies according to the age level and scheduling is kept flexible. Each day, campers are offered some degree of choice and are encouraged to participate in all areas of the program. All activities are presented with an eye towards nurturing, fostering, and supporting each camper’s feeling of personal satisfaction. The Meadowbrook Day Camp is accredited by the American Camping Association.
Location and Facilities
Meadowbrook Day Camp is located on the campus of the Meadowbrook School of Weston, MA, which is a private elementary day school for boys and girls. Meadowbrook’s unique setting includes nine acres of playing fields, forest, nature trails, a picnic area and a pond. Meadowbrook’s recreational facilities include two heated pools, a fully equipped gym, two archery ranges, a woodworking shop, and separate studios for art and ceramics. Additional accommodations include spacious group rooms and a full service kitchen.
Staff
The day camp staff numbers over 100 each summer. Camper to counselor ratios are in compliance with American Camping Association standards and are contingent upon the age of the campers and activities. Each group is led by one or two adult Senior Counselors with support from Junior and Group Counselors. Experienced and competent specialists staff the varied activities and specialties.
The Meadowbrook Day Camp takes pride in hiring a mature and qualified staff. Each individual is chosen on the basis of enthusiasm, love for children, teaching experience, creativity, commitment to safety, and an interest in the outdoors. Eligible candidates are drawn from the teaching profession, graduate schools, colleges and surrounding public and private high schools. A high percentage of Meadowbrook staff return each summer and many counselors were former Meadowbrook campers.
