Seasonal Professional - Hiking & Camping Specialist

CAMP WALT WHITMAN:

Camp Walt Whitman is a traditional private coed summer camp located in the beautiful White Mountains of New Hampshire. 

 

Our 400 campers, ranging in age from 7 to 15, attend camp for seven weeks and thrive in our well rounded program.  Our outdoor adventure is a highlight of our program with campers participating on our high ropes course, low ropes course, climbing and bouldering walls, rock climbing, as well as going on age appropriate day hikes, five day backpacking, biking, and canoeing trips.  All of this is just one exciting part of our overall program where campers also participate in swimming, sailing, waterskiing, windsurfing, arts and crafts, ceramics, woodshop, tennis, baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer, lacrosse, etc.

 

We are known for our warm, friendly, and talented staff of over 200.  This past summer our staff came to us from 37 states and 14 countries.

Biking, Hiking and Camping Instructors:

Our hiking and camping program is one of the unique highlights of Camp Walt Whitman.  All 400 campers at CWW participate in a day hike once a week.  These range from short hikes to local ponds and waterfalls for our youngest campers to day trips hiking up Mt Washington, Franconia Ridge, Mt. Moosilauke, Cannon Mt., etc for our older campers.  In addition, campers over the age of ten have the opportunity to participate in 3 or 5 day backpacking trips.

Our hiking and camping staff, comprised of 14 staff members, is a close knit group that provides the leadership on these hikes.  Applicants for these positions must have extensive hiking and camping experience, experience working with children and a tremendous enthusiasm, which they can happily convey to groups they are leading. This is a position of great responsibility and freedom!

Our hiking and camping positions are a haven for those who relish the great outdoors. Camp Walt Whitman is located in the heart of the White Mountains, some of the most beautiful hiking country in the Northeastern United States. The Appalachian Trail runs through New Hampshire and many of the hikes that our hiking and camping specialists lead are on these trails.

Our biking staff will be leading road trips with our oldest campers (14-15 year olds).  The trips will be 4-5 day trips and a basic knowledge of the working components of bicycles is required.
