How to be an ethical traveler - more or less

posted by Kathi @ 6:46 AM
I stumbled across a site today that is worth sharing: The Ethical Traveler

This from their website: Ethical Traveler is the first grass-roots alliance uniting adventurers, tourists, travel agencies, and outfitters — everyone who loves to travel, and sees travel as a positive force in the world. We feel that all travelers are, in effect, freelance ambassadors. We also believe that we have the ability to join our voices, and to use our economic power to strengthen human rights and protect the environment.

Especially worth noting is there 13 tips/recommendations for ethical travel.

The Air Car - zero pollution and low running costs

posted by Eric @ 2:20 PM
Cool! I want one of these! (The article was written using metric units and euros so I did the conversions for you.)

Most importantly, it is incredibly cost-efficient to run - according to the designers, it costs less than [$1.25] per [62 miles] (about a tenth that of a petrol car). Its mileage is about double that of the most advanced electric car. The car has a top speed of 68 mph.

Refilling the car will, once the market develops, take place at adapted petrol stations to administer compressed air. In two or three minutes, and at a cost of approximately [$2], the car will be ready to go another [120-180 miles].

As a viable alternative, the car carries a small compressor which can be connected to the [battery] and refill the tank in 3-4 hours.

Due to the absence of combustion and, consequently, of residues, changing the oil (1 litre of vegetable oil) is necessary only every [30,000 miles].

The temperature of the clean air expelled by the exhaust pipe is between 0 - 15 degrees below zero, which makes it suitable for use by the internal air conditioning system with no need for gases or loss of power.
