...otherwise known as ROWE. Various tech companies such as AT&T, IBM, and Sun Microsystems have incorporated this intriquing concept into their work environments; however, none have embraced it as much as Best Buy's online order department.
"The endeavor...seeks to demolish decades-old business dogma that equates physical presence with productivity. The goal at Best Buy is to judge performance on output instead of hours."
Now I realize, in the seasonal industry, this could be a tricky business model. Generally speaking, when you only have a 3 - 6 month season, you need your employees to perform AND to put in the hours.
But, from my own workplace experiences as well as my reading on generational differences in the workplace, I think for those employers that can make it work, they will be the ones to get the best and the brightest of the Gen X'ers and the Millenials because this biz model really speaks to them.
Maybe as seasonal employers a complete ROWE model is out of the question, but what if you can incorporate some of the aspects of the model into your workplace?
