Based in Ketchikan, Baranof & Company offers intimate, high quality excursions for guests who want to experience the true spirit of Alaska.

Baranof & Company owns and operates The Alaska Fish House and Baranof Fishing Excursions from the Fish House marina in Ketchikan, Alaska. The Alaska Fish House marina is located in the heart of downtown Ketchikan. (nicknamed The Salmon Capital of the World). Our small town is supported mainly by local fisheries and the tourism industry. Ketchikan has 8,000 year round residents, and we are visited by close to one million cruise ship passengers during the summers. From May to September we have between one to six cruise ships docked each day. The Alaska Fish House marina is located within walking distance from the cruise ship docks and is open seasonally to provide outstanding Alaskan Seafood and authentic Alaskan experiences to our visitors and locals alike.

With a five month season long days and hard work is the norm but employees enjoy at least one day off a week that allows you to get out and enjoy the area or get the laundry done.

Alaska Fish House

The ideal candidate for any position in the Alaska Fish House would have a healthy desire to learn about and live the Alaskan lifestyle. You should be adventurous and enjoy outdoor activities such as fishing, camping, and hiking. At the Alaska Fish house we feel that education is important, therefore, previous experience with seafood is a plus, but we are also willing to train individuals, if we feel your attitude and personality fit our overall goals for the restaurant. We want our customers to feel as though they are walking into a family kitchen. In order to maintain this welcoming feeling, we need all employees from the Lead Chef to the busser to share interests, and be happy to work with one another. We are a family company and also encourage married couples, or great friends to apply together.

Room and Board

We do not offer company housing, however, we are great at helping potential employees locate affordable house. Housing ranges from $500-$900 per month depending on whether it is shared or individuals. We understand that cost of living in Alaska is high, therefore, we adjust our wages accordingly.

Perks

On days off you can enjoy fishing in one of our open skiffs with our local guides, or take other local exciting tours such as zip lines, or float plane tours. If you are a captain, or have experience operating skiffs, you can also be checked out to take one of our boats out solo fishing when the skiffs are not in use.

Getting Here and Getting Around

Ketchikan is a quick 1.5 hour flight north of Seattle on Alaska Airlines. If you choose to drive the Alaska Marine Highway has terminals in Bellingham, Washington and Prince Rupert, British Columbia. If you drive make sure you have a passport to enter Canada. From Bellingham the ride is 36 hours and from Prince Rupert the ferry takes 6 hours. Let us know when you will be arriving and we will meet you and orient you to town before taking you to your housing.

For Fun

Southeast Alaska is a beautiful and bountiful place to be and the wilderness activities available reward a person with a great sense of adventure and desire to be outdoors. There are many hiking trails around that lead to gorgeous lakes and waterfalls, as well as beaches all along the island that provide for a great evening of bon fires and friends. We are located right on the water in our own private marina where there is always a way to get out on the ocean for a day or two.
