Glacier Dog Sledding in Beautiful Southeast Alaska!
Supported by the greatest staff in the industry, Alaska Icefield Expeditions executes a guest-first approach to glacier dog sledding on the Denver Glacier in Skagway as well as the Herbert, Mendenhall and Norris Glaciers in Juneau.
The Denver, Mendenhall, Herbert and Norris Glaciers lay within the Tongass National Forest, originating within the 1,500 square mile Juneau Icefield, blanketing the Coast Mountains for 100 miles along the U.S. Canada border from Juneau to Skagway.

Not only will you get to meet people from all over the world, but you will also get to be one on one with past and future Iditarod Mushers, sled dog puppies and sled dogs in training. There will be lots to learn and we are happy to share with you!

The Employee Experience
Fly to camp in a helicopter for your week at work. The glacier camp is ready for you. Our camps are fully equipped with housing, sled dogs and a camp chef. We have a number of positions available that make this once in a lifetime experience a reality.
- Mushers drive sled dogs and offer engaging glacier tours,
- Tour Attendants rotate working as "Handlers" for dog teams, loading and unloading guests at helicopters as well as taking action photos. Duties are rotated to ensure a variety of activities to keep your summer engaging.
- Expediters provide critical information, obtain supplies and support to camp and the home office.
Our remote glacier camps are weather dependent. You must be in good physical shape, healthy and willing to engage in a dynamic environment.
Ideal Candidate
The best members of our team are people who love dogs and people. You will be a key member of a hard working team. Excellent communication, timeliness, ability to work alone or with others is very important. Ability to maintain a friendly and professional attitude with co workers and guests at all times.
The ideal candidate will be physically fit and enjoy working outdoors in all types of weather. Maintain a positive attitude and proactive manner throughout the work day.
Prior glacier travel experience, extended backpacking, Wilderness medicine skills and a second language are welcome.
Room and Board
Living on a glacier is an adventure in itself and we make it easier by providing housing.
Staff will live in vinyl Quonset huts with 2 to 4 people.
There is a full-time cook on staff to provide all meals while on the glacier.
Living conditions are rustic with no hot/cold running water and outhouses
One day off a week in town where hostel style housing is available. You pay for food on your day off.
Consumable recovery fee of $120/month

Getting Here and Getting Around
Employees will be responsible for getting to and from glacier camps in either Juneau or Skagway before and after the season.
Working in Juneau - You'll want to fly on a commercial airline (Alaska or Delta), or you can drive to Skagway and take the Alaska State Ferry to Juneau. Tips for locating to Juneau.
Working in Skagway - You'll want to drive the Alaska Highway ending in Skagway or Fly into Juneau and take the Alaska State Ferry or a commuter flight on Alaska Seaplanes to Skagway. Tips for locating to Skagway
We will provide transportation from the airport or ferry terminal. Should you decide to drive your own vehicle, there are places to park, however we are not responsible for loss/theft/damages.
